Master data is at the heart of a company, central to many departments and automated processes. But what happens when everyone is allowed to be creative in naming parts? MINDA Industrieanlagen GmbH found themselves in this situation. The results: an unexpected additional workload for technical writers, who had to create a manual workaround, as well as an overload for customer support, since customers could no longer identify which spare parts they needed to order. A team from the technical documentation department joined forces with doctima to solve the problem. In this presentation, you will learn about the problems that MINDA encountered and the solution strategies that were developed together. We will also reveal how terminology work is part of the solution and how connecting terminology to the Product Lifecycle Management system is going.

Biography

Lena Krauss completed her studies in linguistics and translation, with a focus on terminology, in Germany and Canada. After holding various positions in the translation industry, she began working as a project manager and consultant at doctima GmbH. In this role, she advises clients on translation, terminology, standardization, and content management. As the organizer of the community event Termcafé, she co-hosts regular knowledge exchanges on a wide range of terminology topics.

Biography

Nadine Brockschmidt is a technical writer certified by tekom. At her previous job, she gained extensive experience with practical terminology work. She currently works at MINDA Industrieanlagen GmbH in the technical documentation department. In addition to her writing tasks, she is responsible for terminology work, she coordinates designations with various departments, and manages terminology in the terminology data base Lexeri.
